This is a very popular genre in our school. But what is sci-fi? Well, stories under this category deal with technology and its impact in society. The things that happen in the novel could become real if advances in technology make it possible. Science fiction has many sub-genres. Here are the subgenre that will fall into this section: 1. Dystopian fiction - A very popular genre now-a-days, they narrate the stories of teens that challenge the oppressive social norms in order to build a better world. 2. Apocalyptic / Post-apocalytic fiction - These are stories that deal with the end of the world as we know it because of some sort of catastophy and the characters have to face with the aftermath. 3. Biopunk fiction - These stories revolve around genetic engineering in a near future, post-industrial dystopian society where government uses teachnology to retain their power. 4. Steampunk fiction - Stories that are set on the time where society relied on steam power but there is a presence of advanced technology that did not exist at the time. If you like Divergent, The Hunger Games, and The Giver you will probably like the other titles we have available in the Science fiction genre. This semester we are adding Star Wars: The Force Awakens to the Science fiction section of our collection. Some of the titles we have that fall into this genre: Here at the Upper Level Library we are Star Wars fans and we have started to buy books on this classical saga. You can check our the Star Wars website that has all kind of information, videos and images on the movies and the TV series.
