We know how popular comics, manga and graphic novels are among our students which is why we are building a section dedicated to these genres. Here are some of the new titles we have acquiered:

Stories that are set in the mid 20th century or earlier and were not published during those times are considered historical fiction. Here you will also find stories based on historical events and / or historical figures. Some of the subgenres that fall in this category are: 1. Biographical novel - These are based on biographical and historical research. The novel narrates the life of a person that truly lived. 2. Nonfiction novel - Events and people in the story are real. The book uses elements of fiction to tell the real-life story. 3. Fictional biography - This is fiction based on a real person. It is not really a biography because it includes fictional events. They present everyday situations in a comical way. Some of the subgenre that belongs here are: 1. Satire - Stories that make fun of the negative aspects of humanity such as arrogance, greed, ext. 2. Parody - Stories that make fun of people or social customs. They are meant as criticism. 3. Black humor - Are comedies that are dark, grotesque in how they make fun of situations or types of people 4. Picaresque fiction - These types of stories revolve around an anti-hero protagonist and is episodical, there is not a real plot, it just narrates the different situations in which the character is confronted with. Here are some of the novels we have under this genre: ,Another popular genre at our school, fantasy, is basically stories that take place in a world that is not real or possible. These stories are set in magical places and characters have magical powers or supernatural characteristics. These stories have an element of adventure and suspense. Here are the subgenres that will be included in this section: 1. Urban fantasy - Stories in this subgenre take place in the city. Teens usually live in boarding schools and they discover they have supernatural abilities. 2. Paranormal fiction - Characters are paranormal creatures like vampires, werewolves, shape shifters, angels, ext. These stories tend to be dark. 3. Magical realism - A genre that originated in Latin America, this type of story is set in a realistic setting but there are fantasitcal elements in the story. Because they are not completely realistic, they are placed under the general section of fantasy. If you like stories about vampires, werewolves, wizards and the likes, this genre is for you. Here are the new fantasy books we have: As you all know, the library is going through a renovation process. The main purpose of the renovation is to create spaces for you - our students and teachers - to collaborate, study and read. In order to make all books easier to find, we'll be organizing books by general topics. They will be labeled, color-coded and will be organized within their section using the DDC system.
We'll be posting individual articles on how literature and non-fiction will be organized. Stay tuned for more information. Vilmarie Torres, Librarian The future literature section at our library will be sub organized by genre to make it easier for patrons to find what they are looking for. Under this collection we'll have: 1. Folklore This section will have books on mythology from different parts of the world as well as folktales. Here you will be able to find books on mythical creatures, gods and others. 2. Anthologies In this section we'll have books that have literary pieces in different genres whether they are from the same or different authors. 3. Poetry Here we'll have all poetry in all its different forms. 4. Drama All plays will be gathered in this section. 5. Fiction Fiction has stories to satisfy the taste of all. At our library we'll be mixing young adult literature with other literary pieces by organizing them based on genres. There are many stories that combine two or more genres which makes them a challenge to categorize into one specific genre but in those cases, stories can be placed in either category. Below is the description of the genres that will become the fiction sections once we have the bookshelves in place. This section is subdivided into fiction genres: a. Realistic fiction b. Adventure fiction c. Science fiction d. Fantasy fiction e. Mystery / Thriller fiction f. Horror fiction g. Humorous fiction h. Romantic fiction i. Spiritual / Philosophical fiction j. Historical fiction 6. Graphic, Comics & Manga Here we'll have graphic novels, comics and manga from different genres together. 7. Miscellaneous This section will house letters, speeches, essays and other literary pieces that don't fall under the sections mentioned above. 8. Literary Theory & Criticism This section will house different books on literary criticism, theory and books on literary elements related to fiction, poetry and drama. “I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary.
